FIFTY FOOT COMBO

Belgium? They're from BELGIUM??! Well, they've got the surf thing down
pat. With pretty, haunting melodies, gut-tickling bass tones and a fair
amount of splashy reverb, Fifty Foot Combo paints the night side of the
surf scene, lighting the tiki torches and roasting the boar and the whole
nine yards. I swear you can smell the salt air. Bongos punctuate their
sound, and while that usually means the drummer will lay back, Bart Le
Rouge ain't in the mood for sweet shit, prefering to battle the bongos to
a crowd-pleasing draw on "Inspection #5." They even break out the vocals for
"Robin Boy Wonder," a strange little garage rocker that's about exactly what
you think it's about. Gotta love it. This album was originally released
a few years ago on Z-Braah Records, but it was pretty tough to find if you
weren't hangin' ten in Belgium yourself. This MuSick Recordings re-release
features the whole album plus a pair of new bonus tracks. This also
means you can now find it easily, and if you have any love for surf and
exotic sounds, you really oughta.
