NERVES
New Animal (Thrill Jockey)
Reviewed by John
Sekerka
Unlike anything else on the Thrill Jockey label, the Nerves harken back to a
simpler time of music when urgent punk cries ruled the lands. Aptly named, the
Nerves are an itchy, twitchy lot, cranking out short garagy bursts of manic
energy, well suited to the early CBGB's scene, and enjoying some form of success
in the right circles these days with the likes of The Murder City Devils.
There's something awfully familiar about the sound, somewhere between Television
and Gun Club, though never falling into any retro crap trap. The Nerves make
happening, original music that will hopefully find an audience.
