Tom T. Hall has written some of the best story songs in country music, and country music generally provides the best story songs of all. Some, if not all, of his best, are included in the twelve tracks of this 12 song set, part of MCA's Millennium Collection budget line. With the inclusion of titles like "Ballad Of Forty Dollars," "The Year That Clayton Delaney Died," "Faster Horses (The Cowboy And The Poet) and "(Old Dogs And Children And) Watermelon Wine," this disc covers enough of the important bases to make it a home run hit for those who need just one Tom T. Hall disc for their shelves. Of course, a lot of folks who think they need just one might find themselves combing the racks of the nearest CD shop when they've heard enough of this one.
