IN THIS ISSUE OF COSMIK DEBRIS: Our second delightful conversation with the legendary jazz producer (and founder of Label M), Joel Dorn; An interview with Mark Cline of Love Tractor on returning when they never went away; The Tape Hiss Interview with Texas Terri (of Texas Terri & The Stiff Ones), which comes with a parental warning and a donut counter; Rusty Pipes kicks off a semi- regular feature on art rock with a look at side-long songs; and in the Everything Else In Review section you'll find reviews of David Lindley and Jazz Is Dead concerts, among other things. All this plus CD reviews, columns, and all that which you expect to find in the pages of Cosmik Debris Magazine. And an almost brand new Cosmik Radio, too!

Audible Debris COSMIK RADIO!: Cosmik Radio is Megadeth followed by Sinatra followed by Yellowman followed by Iggy. Sick, huh? You just need a RealAudio Player to listen. If you don't have one, go pick one up. Cosmik Radio is just the kind of Net-Only audio that radio station program directors don't want you getting hooked on. So go ahead. Inhale!

JOEL DORN - He was the Boy Wonder at Atlantic Records in the 60s, where most everything he touched turned to gold, from the jazz sides he made with nearly all the important names in the genre to the pop records with Bette Midler, Roberta Flack and others. A while back we interviewed to Joel Dorn about his then label, 32 Records, but things got dicey and Joel took off for greener pastures, taking "his guys" from 32 with him to form Label M. This time, he's doing it all his way. Interview by Shaun Dale.

LOVE TRACTOR - When the music industry turned its checkbooks to Athens, Georgia in the early 80s, it found some of the most unusual bands on the planet. Bands like The B-52's, R.E.M., Pylon, and Love Tractor. These bands weren't like any others. There was something surreal about them, something... artistic. In 1989, Love Tractor suddenly dropped off the radar screens, as do so many bands that it's barely cause for a blurb in Billboard. Now, a dozen years later, we're learning that the band never broke up. At least not with each other. Just with the industry. Mark Cline explains it all to DJ Johnson.

TEXAS TERRI & THE STIFF ONES. - The Tape Hiss Interview with perhaps the toughest, wildest rocker of the past few years. They call her the She-Ig because she's just about the only rocker that can rival the antics of Iggy Pop in his heyday. Parental warnings come with this one, though. Watch out for falling clothing. Adults only. Etc. Our Mr. Sekerka has a Mrs. Sekerka, so we've got someone keeping her occupied until this one's offline next month, lest he be forced to sleep on the couch... or worse. You'll never look at donuts the same way again.

THE GOLDEN AGE OF ART ROCK - Part One of an occasional series on art rock covering a wide stretch of real estate, including this month's territory, side-long songs. What was your favorite? Did you hate 'em all? Or are you like a lot of us and you secretly keep a stash of old vinyl in a safe place for when nobody's home? Well, students, file into the classroom. The Professor is ready to begin. By Rusty Pipes.

CD & RECORD REVIEWS - Everything from rock to jazz to hip-hop and back again.

OTHER REVIEWS - Concerts, books, and other things.

PIGSHIT - Oh no!! A major confession! Gary is... Canadian! And on top of that, he thinks he has a pretty good idea of what is great Canadian music and what is not. Check out his list of the ten Canadian records you shouldn't be without, and hear sound clips of each one.

CLOSET PHILOSOPHY - Picture Resident Bush riding a bomb, waving a big Texan hat and hootin "Wooooooooooo Hoooooooo," just like Slim Pickins did in Dr. Strangelove. That's not exactly what Closet Philosophy is about, but it'll warm you up for it.

COSMIK BLUES - It's April, the month that marks both the birth and death of Muddy Waters, and Eric's got his ears open for new records that Muddy might have dug. .

CREDITS - The names and e-mail addresses of the people responsible for this thing.

COSMIK RADIO - Want an hour of music that fits the personality of Cosmik Debris Magazine? That's right, Sinatra segues into Megadeth into Peter Tosh into Man Or Astro-Man into... well, you get the picture. It's a little something we like to call Genre Whiplash. Or maybe you're in the mood for a trip into The Fog Machine, our mix of music of the ethereal variety. All you need is a RealAudio player. Come on in.

INTERNET RADIO STATIONS - Great radio is alive and well on the Net! Cosmik Debris presents links to take you where the good ones are hiding, from St. Louis to Dublin. You're no longer stuck with just the "classic rock," "young country" and "24-hour talk" that has your town held hostage.

OUR OWN WEBSITES - Many of the Cosmik Debris writers have websites of their own. We have some links right here.

Just a quick note to welcome the newest member of the Cosmik staff, Holly Day. She's written for a lot of magazines and newspapers, and continues to do so, and we're very lucky and happy that she came to us. You'll find her work in the CD Review section this month, but she tells me she has some features in mind somewhere down the road, as well.

Born Holly Wood in New York City, the young girl was given a typewriter with a sticky C key as a present for her 10th birthday. She immediately took to music journalism, but owing to the limitations of the machine she was confined to covering Creedence Clearwater. After earning a PhD in journalism at Harv...ard, a school normally associated with law, she set out to make her name in rock and roll journalism. Realizing the name Holly Wood was too ordinary, she took the pen name Holly Day and...

OKAY, WHO LET SEKERKA IN MY OFFICE!!!

Note to self: change password on word processor AGAIN!

We'll try to dig up her real bio for you and link it to her by-line, like the others. Anyway, we're glad she's here, and we're glad you're here to read her work, and we hope you enjoy this issue of Cosmik Debris Magazine. It's packed. Get to it.
