NEW FOUND GLORY
New Found Glory (MCA)

Straight outta Coral Gables, New Found Glory is a new entry in the Great Floridian Signing Sweepstakes, Punk Rock Division.

Another Florida band, you say? Well, yeah, but with a sound that could easily have been developed in Orange County, California. New Found Glory is a quintet that devotes their musical attention to cranking out hooky, aggressive pop-punk music that primarily chronicle girl trouble. Combined with their basic good looks (in an appropriately punk rock pierced, dyed, tatted and spiked sort of way) and the marketing muscle of MCA, you're probably going to hear a lot about these guys in the short run.

Thing is, they've actually got chops, so if MCA loses interest, the dye washes out and they finally get steady dates, well, you just might keep on hearing about them anyway. It might not seem that way if you glance at the radio charts, but truth is, the good stuff prevails over the long run, and New Found Glory are doing some good stuff. I hear at least a dozen albums in this style a month, and this is one of the few that has made several return trips to my disc player. It'll probably hang in yours for awhile, too, if pop hooks, punk attitudes and powerful, guitar driven sounds have any appeal to you.
