Fever in the Ice Age (Two Sheds)

It's hard to get a handle on this band because they don't have a set sound or anything approaching one. Early on, I kept thinking "this might be what U2 would have sounded like if they'd started out in 2002," but a lot of that probably comes from the fact that Chris H.'s voice sounds like a 60/40 mix of Bono and Perry Farrell. Later I was digging deeper in my memory for comparisons, because there were a few names nagging at me but I never fished them out. These guys handle synth pop, alt rock and trippy psyche with equal skill, though my personal preference would be to hear an entire album of them playing songs like the riff-driven trip-out rocker, "We Accelerate." Nothin' worse than a critic trying to tie a band to one sound when they have more tricks in their gig bags, though, and this one is bound to have something to please just about everybody. It's impressive when a band can be as powerful with an atmospheric jangle-pop tune as they can with an all out riff-rock assault, and I must admit, 3d5spd is capable of that and more.
