BILLIE JOYCE
Love Tone (G.I.G. Records)

There's just no good way to take this one. I mean, first of all, you've got
the CD photo spread of a heavily made-up woman (Billie Joyce) in fishnet
hose and a fur coat draped provocatively on furniture throughout the jacket,
which, combined with the lyrics sheet about Prozac-taking single mothers and child abuse makes for a chilling visual combination that I'm sure was
unintentional. The music itself isn't much better - bad white-boy electric
blues with Joyce's strained vocals that sound like she must be wheezing for
breath in between songs to make up for holding her quavering notes too long.
Kind of like some open-mic nightmare you might stumble into in the suburbs.
