AUBREY HAYNIE
A Man Must Carry On (Sugar Hill)

As one of Nashville's premiere session players, the sound of Aubrey Haynie's fiddle and mandolin has accompanied a good many of those who matter in the world of American roots music. To return the favor, more than a few of those who matter show up on his new solo release. Bryan Sutton handles the guitar chores, joined by Rob Ickes and David Talbot on "Butcher Boy." Taking turns on the banjo are Bela Fleck, Scott Vestal, Kevin Haynie and Talbot. Dennis Crouch gets the bass call and the dobro is in the hands of no less than Jerry Douglas, who takes a break on "Gone To Ferrum" so that Rob Ickes can shine on the slide. We got some pickers here, folks.
When the tune calls for a voice, we got some voices too, with Carl Jackson, Tim Mensy, Ronnie Bowman, Dan Tyminski and Tim O'Brien chiming in on vocals.
We got some tunes, too. Scattered among eleven Haynie originals are some traditional tracks and one credited to Hank Sr. and Jr. There's not a one in the bunch that any writer wouldn't be proud to claim.
This is just a first class effort by a bunch of first-rate pros. If you love good songs played well, you're gonna love this one.
