DAYCARE SWINDLERS
Testosterosa (Vile Beat)

At first glance, this one's just another package of teen temptation.
Leather coated boys scaling the impossible peaks of silver. A faceless
display of pulchritude (barely) concealed by silver lame. At first
listen, it's ska-punk. Seen that, heard that, been there, done that.
Except.
Given anything more than casual attention, there are some very
compelling and appealing elements to this disc. The cover may be mere
marketing, but the music is damn good. These guys can play just fine
and they write terrific songs. Ska-punk? Well, sometimes. And
sometimes straight on hard core. And sometimes a pure two-tone skank
fest. And a tight and tough surf instrumental. A bit of buried dub.
An occasional stadium rock flourish. Decent vocals. Some of the best
lyrics I've heard on anything like this in a long while. Songs of simple
lust and social import. Real songs, no matter what the subject.
This one grew on me pretty fast, and I've got a feeling it's going to
grow on me some more. And that cover? Hey, it doesn't hurt the eyes or
anything.
