Another great sonic drug from the Function 8 stable. Bassist Tommy Guerrero put this band together as a support unit, but it grew into its own thing when he added another bassist, Monte Vallier, to the mix. The two basses play together, and sometimes against one another in a way that creates a huge soundquake. Function 8 honcho Gadget joins in on electronics and turntable scratches, and Tim DeGaugh has the daunting task of holding it all together on drums. Holy Moses, what a sound! Overtones as far as the ear can hear, and plenty of ambient decorations to go with 'em. If you're into mind-trippin', gigantic bottom end and great beats, this is one hell of a ride. Function 8 is turning out to be quite a cool label. Their stuff doesn't seem to be turning up in the usual sales outlets, so take a trip to the Function 8 Records Website.
