JOHNNY CASH
I Would Like To See You Again (DCC)

Johnny Cash's early 1978 release, I Would Like To See You Again, is certainly one of his most
pleasant. There's a feeling of down home complacency and wisdom from track to track, whether
Johnny's singing about the good ol' days with Waylon Jennings or telling a little boy just
who Gene Autry is. There are a few gems here, the best of which are "Abner Brown," a
fond remembrance of a kindly drunk, and "After Taxes," a sobering look in the pay envelope and
a vehicle for Cash's deepest vocal dips. The mood and the instrumental performances are
relaxed, and Johnny and The Jordanaires are as fine as wine. On top of all this, the sound
has been warmed up nicely by DCC's wizard of knobs, Steve Hoffman, so what's not to recommend?
As long as you're not looking for historical importance or anything as raw and seminal as those
old Sun records, this is a pretty neat addition to your Cash box.
