LONNIE SHIELDS
Midnight Delight (Rooster Blues)

There may not be a more sweet sounding, soulful performer in the Delta than Lonnie Shields.
Whether Al Green's horn section pump up the volume, or Lonnie slips in some gospel, this is
still a blues record first. Tasty guitar picking and that silky smooth voice is what makes
"Midnight Delight" live up to it's title. After splashing on to the scene with the award
winning Portrait record, Shields ran into some recording difficulties, but returns to wonderful
form some six years after the fact. Like Big Jack Johnson, and so many of the local bluesmen
before him, Shields had to make the move outta the Delta to survive in the music biz, but
Mississippi still runs deep in his heart.
