ROVA
The Works (Volume 3) (Black Saint)

Individually, Bruce Ackley, Jon Raskin, Steve Adams and Larry Ochs are
among the most honored, revered and talented performers and composers of
new music in the world. Collectively, they are Rova, and they are
simply without parallel.
The Works (Volume 3) is another installment in their ongoing effort to
provide commissions for original work that can provide a platform for
their blend of structured improvisation within the boundaries of avant
garde composition. Previous efforts have featured the work of composers
including Fred Firth, John Zorn, Anthony Braxton and others. This
release includes three pieces, one each by Robin Holcomb, Muhal Richard
Abrams and Steve Adams. Each is a notable addition to the Rova catalog,
presenting various combinations of baritone, tenor, alto, soprano and
sopranino saxophones, and only saxophones, in performances that are
simultaneously challenging, enlightening and entertaining.
The Works (Volume 3) is another singular accomplishment from a singular
ensemble comprised of singular individuals.
