CLYDE
Clyde (Baby Julius Records)

I haven't been particularly interested in the rock/rap scene since Run-DMC hooked up with Aerosmith, which either means I'm just too freaking old, or that the rock/rap landscape just hasn't been all that interesting. One of the reasons I like Clyde so much is that they give me some confidence that the latter is the case.

Hard rockers with a hip-hop clue, Clyde manage to be interesting melodically, rhythmically and lyrically. I just can't say the same thing about most of the competition - in fact, at the level they perform, I can't say the same thing about any of the competition. It's hard for me to imagine these guys being anything less than huge a year from now, and this disc, which has the national distributing clout of the folks at All Indie, is a great introduction to a great band. "Leaving" is the first single, but shouldn't be the last, because there's really not a bad cut on the disc.

If your local retailers are totally clueless, zip over to www.clydeonline.com and get clued in.
