After years of exploration Bobby McFerrin may have finally found his voice. Instead of vocal gymnastics, Beyond Words settles into a soft, voice and piano sublime mode. McFerrin's soothing whisper, sometimes approaching the sensual tone of Bebel Gilberto, dispenses with lyrics and becomes in effect a revolving horn section. Chick Corea is the surprise piano man along for the ride, and turns out to be the perfect balancing foil for McFerrin's prowess.
