DIRTY DOZEN BRASS BAND
Medicated Magic (RopeaDope/Ryko)
Reviewed by John Sekerka
Wasting no time, the band get jumping with the exuberant "Ain't Nothin' But A Party," a raucous Mardi Gras capsule bubbling over with sassy horns. The legendary Dirty Dozen Brass Band have always had the respect but never a monster record to back their reputation. Medicated Magic could change all that. The addition of keys, funky organ from Frederick Sanders and Dr. John's rag tag piano, is the unifying stroke of brilliance. For the first time there doesn't seem to be anything missing from a Dirty Dozen album.
