FILTHY THIEVING BASTARDS
A Memory Of Retreads And Broken Quills (BYO)
Reviewed by John Sekerka
Unfairly classified as a Swingin' Utters side project, Filthy Thieving Bastards deserves respect as a distinct entity. Johnny Bonnel's rough and tumble voice echoes nicely off the violin, mandolin and accordion accompaniment, giving it a definite Pogues feel. And though this record has a pub atmosphere going for it, the songwriting is stronger than the average bar band can muster.
