TRANS AM
TA (Thrill Jockey)
Reviewed by John Sekerka
The gloves are off. Obviously pissed that the crazy eighties new wave revival is generating coin for a lot of faux synth bands, Trans Am, who arguably started the whole mess, are upping the ante. Inching away from their unique brand of groove post rock, Trans Am flip the coin for TA, and don their new romantic hats. Literally. Not only do they slice and dice Spandau Depeche Order chops but they go the whole eleven yards with an all white wardrobe, tuxedos, headbands and top hats in tow. The airbrushed mug shots give it away though: there's some definite cynicism bubbling under all this fluff, and there's no denying the power of a couple of killer cuts. The bar has been raised another notch.
