A Tribute To Nashville (Mint)
Reviewed by John Sekerka
Yup you read right, a tribute to the wonderfully loopy Robert Altman film, in music form of course. It all stemmed from an overzealous cult-like devotion by Carolyn Mark and Dave Lang, who staged screenings, parties and live performances of perhaps the oddest country soundtrack in Hollywood history. Most of the songs were penned by the actors on the set as Altman wove his open ensemble magic. Writing credits go to such folks as Henry Gibson, Karen Black and Keith Carradine - who had a massive hit with "I'm Easy." Yes the songs are simple but there is a definite charm, and when done up so nicely by Mark and her very able country co-horts, sounds mighty fine. Steve Lang interjects hilarious narration bits from the film to bring it all home. Altman would have been proud.
