Lord Peter Wimsey is out on a honeymoon retreat with his Bloomsbury mistress bride Harriet Vane. It's a dark house, with all the doors bolted down before butler Buntner settles them in. The next day they discover the previous owner's body stuffed with cash and skull crushed. With holiday interrupted, Wimsey and Vane set out to solve the crime from which a twirling whodunit unfurls.
Author Dorothy L. Sayers knows the formula for tingling suspense and executes it well. One of the first female graduates of Oxford, she is both a scholarly author and prolific mystery spinster whose prized creation is the old hound Wimsey.
The Audio Partners edition is read by veteran actor Ian Carmichael famous for his BBC portrayals of Lord Peter Wimsey, a role for which it has been said that "Sayers might have created Wimsey just so Carmichael could portray him."
