CAGE
Darker than Black (Massacre)
Reviewed by Holly Day
I had to go back after listening to this and check the liner notes just to
make sure that this wasn't actually a Rob Halford side project, because
this sounds so close to Judas Priest. It's not, however, just such a close
match that I'm tempted strongly to say they're just ripping Halford & Co.
off wholesale. Lyrically, though, the songs aren't nearly as strong, with
bizarre, much-too-often-repeated choruses that included lines like "Kill
the Devil" and songs with all sorts of weird, mixed-up mythological
references. The best parts, however, are the low-spoken, spooky
storytelling bits, which all sound like they could have come from the first
draft of Spinal Tap, only to be cut out and left on the editing floor
because they were just so dumb.
