THE LEFTOVERS
The Fucken Leftovers Hate You (Dropkick)

Reviewed by Alan Wright

In 1978, The Leftovers released their one three-song 7" EP, their only release in their short career, which was later included on one of the volumes of Murder Punk collections of Aussie '70s punk. This collection includes that famed EP, one more studio track that was left off the EP, plus a bunch of lower-fi live crap and a huge booklet full of info that I've barely been able to delve into properly. This is worth it for the EP alone, which an original of would cost you a pretty penny now. "Cigarettes & Alcohol" is such a classic punk track you just have to hear it. Ditto for "No Complaints" and "I Only Panic When There's Nothing To Do." The previously unreleased "Hermine" shows off the band's penchant for Velvet Underground-inspired noise. The live stuff, as I mentioned, is much more lo-fi yet plenty of fun, and besides reprising two cuts from the EP also finds them running through deranged versions of Love's "My Flash On You" - which the band has to start again after falling apart - John Lennon's "Cold Turkey," the Monkees' "Circle Sky," Bo Diddley-via-the NY Dolls' "Pills," and the Velvet's "Run Run Run."
