RORY GALLAGHER
Wheels Within Wheels (Capo/Buddha/BMG)

Reviewed by John Sekerka

As guitar whizzes go, Rory Gallagher was one of the best. And while fello U.K. compatriots like Eric Clampton (as my Mom refers to him) and Jimmy Page were busy reformatting their Chicago blues rip-offs into mansions, Gallagher stayed on a righteous musical and non-lucrative path. The inevitable release of uh, unreleased tracks finds Rory in various mellow moods, whether it be subtle demo versions or intricate live cuts. A nice job of track selection and accompanying notes by brother Donal makes this a pleasant surprise. The picking is great, and Rory shows his voice was not just along for the ride. Hey, a posthumous unplugged album by a guitar god that doesn't suck.
