WAYNE HANCOCK
Swing Time (Bloodshot)

Reviewed by John Sekerka

Wayne "The Train" Hancock has always recorded live off the floor, so a gig disc seemed a bit of a redundant puzzler. That is until you consider that A: most folks don't know Hancock, B: most folks don't own any Hancock, and C: this here's one fine honky tonkin' record. Reviving "Thunderstorms and Neon Signs" and "Johnny Law" makes sense cuz these tunes deserve standard status and the orginal studio sides are so hard to come by. Add up a good mix of country swingers and several new tunes, all done up with that glorious Hank Williams about-to-yodel vocal, and you have what they call the real deal.
