JENNIFER MARKS
Jennifer Marks (Bardic Records)
Reviewed by Shaun Dale
Jennifer Marks was doing just fine, crafting her own indie releases, playing
solo gigs and scoring some profitable soundtrack placements when the call
came to invite her to take a place as one of the first artists on the new
Bardic Records label. I'm glad she said yes, and so will be lots of other
folks, I'm sure, given the expanded distribution possibilities the label deal
provides. If you've missed her up to now, here's your chance to get ahold
of a terrific album by a terrific artist.
Her self titled Bardic debut kicks right in with "Live," the kind of song
that makes you, well, want to live. Its joyful 'in spite of it' all
message gives way to a variety of moods - some equally upbeat, some
contemplatively wistful - but every track scores, from the little girl
heartbreak sentiment of "Raggedy Ann" to the girl group rock of "High School
Reunion."
Marks? Jennifer makes hers with this one.
