DUDLEY CONNELL & DON RIGSBY
Meet Me By The Moonlight (Sugar Hill)

Best known for their work in bands that tread the progressive edge of
bluegrass music, Dudley Connell (Seldom Scene) and Don Rigsby (Lonesome
River Band) team up on Meet Me By The Moonlight for a 12 track set of
the straight stuff. Like the traditional work they have done as part of
Longview, this album looks back to the bluegrass sounds of the 40s and
50s. Seven of the tracks are traditional tunes, part of the oral
tradition of Appalachia that gave birth to the original bluegrass
repertoire. There are old hymns and heartbreak ballads, presented with
straight ahead picking and high lonesome harmonies.
With everyone looking for the "next thing" in bluegrass, there aren't
many artists presenting genuinely traditional sounds in authentically
performed styles. There aren't any that do it better.
