JULIE ADAMS & THE RHINO BOYS
I Don't Mind Walking (Gadfly)

Reviewed by Shaun Dale

Best known for her work as a Mountain Stage vocalist (her last release was cut with the Mountain Stage Band), Julie Adams has assembled a rotating crew of musicians and an album full of original tunes for her new Gadfly effort, I Don't Mind Walking.

She gets some songwriting assistance from the boys in the band (guitarist Steve Hill shows up as co-author of 5 tracks, including one with Adams and drummer Ammed Solomon, and bassist John Kessler gets sole credit for "Close Your Eyes") but the Adams' style shines through no matter who helps, and her voice is perfectly suited to the sometimes jazzy folk/pop style of the arrangements.

The sound isn't startlingly original, but the songs are well crafted, the band is tight and talented and Ms. Adams has an impressive set of pipes. Altogether it's an album worthy of your attention if you have an interest in the Americana scene or good pop in general.

Track List: I'm On Wheels * Everything Falls Through * I Don't Mind Walking * Lightning Strikes * Lucky One * Everything Was For You * Over And Under * Take A Walk With Me * Little Bit * I Think It's Gonna Rain * Close Your Eyes
