MECO
Star Wars And Other Galactic Funk (Hip-O)

Reviewed by Shaun Dale

In the summer of 1977, producer Meco Mondardo took John Williams' Star Wars score into the studio and dressed it up in disco glitz. The resulting nine part, sixteen minute marathon was edited down to a seven inch single that focused on the Star Wars Theme and the Cantina Band sequence. That single zoomed strait to the top of the pop charts, a fairly amazing achievement for a disco instrumental even in the seventies.

The full album version is now available on CD, including "Other Galactic Funk," a tough groove that should have a place in every DJ's rack. Included on the CD are the #1 7" edit and a DJ only 12" mix, which means that you'll own every permutation of the "Star Wars Theme/Cantina Band" that you'll ever need, unless you're dying to mix one of your very own, in which case you'll have everything you need to do it.

And you'll also have a new CD full of tight disco dance grooves. Pretty cool, huh?
