SECRET HATE
Vegetables Dancing + Live And More (Skunk)
Reviewed by Shaun Dale
There's a new edition of the seminal Long Beach punkers in circulation
these days (3/4 of the original band and a new guitarist to replace the
late Reggie Rector), and Skunk records has issued a warning bulletin in
the form of this new CD edition of the band's 1983 release, Vegetables
Dancing, a pair of tracks from a 1985 comp and a live set from a 1982
gig. Be warned, then, that one of the great DIY bands of the eighties
is back, and reports from the field indicate that they're back with the
same spirit and energy that made them an important part of the Long
Beach punk scene before anybody realized that there even was a Long
Beach punk scene, or that such a thing might even be possible.
This is punk the way you've gotta like it. House party punk. Let's get
some guitars and stuff and make some noise and see if it turns out to be
music punk. (It most emphatically does.) Punk rock music that will
convince you that S.H.I.T. (Secret Hate Is Truth).
But Mike (Davis) Hate says that among the things he hates are reviews
(not, I hope, reviewers!) so I'm not gonna say much more. Besides, once
you've heard it, there's no much to say, and if you haven't, you won't
know what I'm saying. So go get some.
