WHITE WITCH
White Witch (Capricorn)

Very few people remember White Witch. The fact that they never really made their intentions clear may have something to do with that. This reissue of their 1972 debut album showcases everything that was great and terrible about the prog rock group from Florida. At their worst, they were self-indulgent hook-floggers, capable of flaccid, keyboard-stalled, pompous prog ("It's So Nice To Be Stoned"). At their best, they turned in some pretty powerful guitar rockers ("Home Grown Girl," "Illusion"), and they could obviously play their instruments very well. The bottom line is simple. If you're a collector of 70s progressive rock, you're already on your way to the CD store. If you've never heard White Witch but you're on your way to the CD store anyway, I recommend listening first, because while this might be your cup of tea, it's just as apt to annoy the hell out of you.
