AUSTIN LOUNGE LIZARDS
Never An Adult Moment (Sugar Hill)

Reviewed by Shaun Dale

The members of the Austin Lounge Lizards have been putting their various advanced degrees in philosophy, law and other noteworthy disciplines to good use in the pursuit of sweet music and side-splitting nonsense. Creators of classic musical moments like "Jesus Loves Me (But He Can't Stand You)" and "Put The Oak Ridge Boys In The Slammer," the Lizards happily harpoon anyone, anything or any place they suspect might be taken, or take his or itself, too seriously. The world needs more of that.

Their latest, a 12 song collection on Sugar Hill, contains at least a couple sure fire Lizard classics ("Grunge Song" and "The Illusion Travels By Stock Car" are my pics for that status) and nothing that's any less than a lot of fun. As much fun as the songs are, it has to be noted that these guys are terrific pickers, capable of playing in a wide range of country, pop and bluegrass styles and playing them in a way that transcends any notion of parody.

Never An Adult Moment is too good to waste on kids. This is seriously funny, folks. Check it out.
