A one-trick pony with amazing staying power, El Vez continues to deliver cross-border, shmaltz and roll. Who can blame him? As the Mexican Elvis (you can tell who's who by the moustache), he's got a pretty good shtick. And though there's no shortage of Elvis tunes to maul (he's still releasing records!), El Vez has expanded his repertoire to include the likes of Paul Simon and David Bowie. Twisting Iggy Pop's classic "Lust For Life" into "Lust For Christ", complete with dreamy gospel backup singers, is the easy highlight. Listen hard and clever subversive ideas seep forth, but don't let that detract from the fun factor.
