HECTOR ZAZOU & SANDY DILLON

What is it about Hector Zazou? He manages to get all these fab divas to lend voice to his improbable, obtuse sound experiments? Suzanne Vega, Siouxsie Sioux, Bjork, and now Sandy Dillon. Ah yes, the brilliantly diverse female of many voices, Sandy Dillon. The owner of an enticing golden throat and a rusty Tom Waits rasp, Sandy Dillon. The criminally obscure Sandy Dillon. That Sandy Dillon. Hector's met his match. Dillon not only keeps up with Zazou's jagged 180 degree turns, but craves her own snaky paths. Moody escarpments of avant pop and almost jazz are at play here. An adventurous listen? Of course. Perfectly suited for scattering the in-laws who've lingered far too long after holiday din-din, as it is for entertaining the ultra hip, black-turtlenecked east European exchange performance artists residing in the cellar. Dedicated to Don Van Vliet (Captain Beefheart) and Scott Walker, so there.
