HIMSA
Death Is Infinite EP (Revelation)

I thought of Can when I first put this on. Can?
That's probably the last group Himsa (a Sanskrit
word whose meaning cannot be repeated here) ever
expected to be put side by side with. Honestly, I
hear it for a few seconds in the concise
minimalism of "Born to Conquer" (the opening
track). Then the vocals come through some dodgy
telephone connection, a circular guitar riff
enters the frame, and it all becomes D.R.I. fast,
and extremely catchy, even though the lyrics talk
about retribution and reprisal.
I suppose this could be lumped in with newer
metallic subspecies of hardcore punk. This is
significantly catchier, and better played, than
most of the tenderfoot neophytes though.
If this EP was aural foreplay, I'm looking
forward to the album!
Grade: B+.
