MICHELLE WILLSON & THE EVIL GAL FESTIVAL ORCHESTRA
Wake Up Call (Bullseye)
Reviewed by Shaun Dale
Stomp & shout & work it on out! Michelle Wilson is a Boston based blues
singer with pipes to spare, and she's backed by a quartet that cranks out
roadhouse blues with a funky edge. Together they've created one of those
albums that gets you to proceed straight out of your chair, onto your feet
and shortly thereafter into a state of exhaustion. Just when you think you
can't take it anymore, Ken Clark's B-3 drops into a smokey jazz club mood,
Scott Shelter's sax begins to coo, Wilson's voice drops into a sexy smolder
and you're left to try to catch your breath with your heart in your throat.
They they start all over again.
If you've been thinking that the era of the great female blues voices is
passing, well, Michelle Wilson's got a Wake Up Call for you, and this is one
alarm you'll be glad to hear ring.
