RUDY RAY MOORE
This Ain't No White Christmas (Norton)
Reviewed by Shaun Dale
Rudy Ray Moore is a capable R&B vocalist, and there's some evidence of that
on this disc, which blends some newer material with a 1971 Christmas
release, but his greatest reknown is as his comic alter-ego, Dolemite, the
signifying master of the dozens. Fans of the tradition of black "party
records" ala Redd Foxx will find that Dolemite is every bit as foul and
funny as anyone in the genre. This isn't licensed for airplay, but there's
not much risk of any of it showing up on the airwaves anyway. It isn't for
the kids, either. And you probably won't want to play it for Mom when the
Christmas dinner is put away. It's sexist, obscene and, in its way,
hilarious.
A specialty product for a specialty audience, those who like this kind of
thing will love this album. If you're not sure what I mean, well, consider
yourself amply warned.
