SEVENDUST
Animosity (TVT)

You'll have to excuse those of us who are still in a happy state of shock over
the state of modern radio. After years of being force-fed boy bands and
the high-school surf-punk-variant begat by grunge, suddenly we're all
wallowing in... mega-metal!! It's loud, it's snotty, and it's
everywhere. Man, isn't it great? One of the more interesting bands to
arrive on this N-metal scene is Sevendust, who recorded parts of Animosity while
in the studio in Orlando, next door to...O-Town, Lou Perleman's latest Svengali-
boy-band-project. Ha ha! Oh, the irony! Oh, the symbolism! Gods of metal, coming
along to slay, do in, and vanquish all that wussy pseudo-pop dreckage with
dissonant-skronk-married-to-nifty-melodies by the truckload. ARRRGH!! Yeah!!
Already charting out of the box on the strength of the single "Praise,"
Sevendust's third full-length release shows that even ear-splitting decibel-
overdrive can be downright melodic at the same time. If this is the direction
that music is going, and rock radio is actually going along for the ride this
time, let it roll, baby...
