SHELBY LYNNE
Love, Shelby (Island)

Reviewed by John Sekerka

Washing the last bit of Nashville straw from her golden locks, Shelby Lynne heads for smooth sailing in pop-rock and R'n'B waters. Armed to her pearly whites with radio friendly tunes, Lynne is in peak, chart-action form, and firing while the iron is scorching red hot. Resurrecting the white woman soul ghost of Dusty Springfield, Lynne ups the ante with a slutty and frivolous image (save bedroom wall space for the fold out poster!). Love, Shelby sounds overtly sugary at first bite, but time reveals some pretty decent song writing. Shelby knows exactly what she's doing, and hits her target audience from all sides. Country music is left to nurse strong drinks at the bar and ponder coulda beens. My recommendation is moot, for you will buy the record, cuz she is indeed, Shelby Lynne.
