CORDERO
Lamb Lost in the City (Daemon)
Reviewed by Holly Day
Frontwoman Ani Cordero has one of those exquisite voices that sounds both
mature and worldly but incredibly sweet and innocent at once. Alone, this
would be enough to make this CD for me, but her backing band is just as
worthy of recognition, providing a backdrop of Latin percussion and twangy,
echoey Southwestern guitar and cool, cheesy keyboards that lend a gritty,
cool urban feel to these songs, which are half sung in English and half in
Spanish. I think that's what I like about these songs best, in fact - on one
hand, they're very pleasant to listen to and just sound nice, with wonderful
vocals and instrumentals, but on the other hand, there's this element of
toughness to them that keeps them from being just nice music to listen to.
