EVE'S DROP
One Of Many Goodbyes (Hapi Skratch)

Reviewed by Shaun Dale

Whether the rock world was left without "the presence of strong guitar work and captivating female vocals..." with the demise of Concrete Blonde, as the press kit for Eve's Drop claims, is subject to debate. What's undebatable is that there's always room for more strong guitar work and more captivating female vocals, and Eve's Drop offers plenty of both.

The guitar is in the hands of Mike Lopez and the voice belongs to Kristi Stice, with the help of a rotating crew of "additional musicians" (including Hapi Skratch resident guitar wizard Dave Beegle on organ, e-bow and slide). The duo is also responsible for the 9 original songs on the disc, which are augmented by a pair of live covers of Concrete Blonde tunes. While their admiration for their forebears is heartfelt, it's really time for Eve's Drop to shine in their own right, and the music they're creating on their own is every bit as impressive as the music they admire. Next time out, I'm hoping they drop the nod to the Blonde and save the space for their own impressive originals. Meanwhile, there's plenty to enjoy here.
