Sally Ellyson sings like an angel. Sweet syllables to die for. Even when she slips into a haunting angel of death as on the sombre "When I Was Drinking," there is rich beauty in Ellyson's golden voice. Much like the Cowboy Junkies, there is an unsettling dichotomy in the songs, though Hem's music is a sweeter, more pastoral country, with string sections playing alongside slide guitars.
