NELSEN ADELARD
Jack of All Trades (Nelsen Adelard and Hot Rod Music)
Reviewed by Eric Steiner
There's a lot of blues to like on Jack of All Trades. All kinds of blues. From
swing, to jump, guitar-fueled Chicago style blues, and country blues, this disc
showcases Nelson Adelard, a mainstay of the Los Angeles area blues scene. If
these dozen cuts are any hint at his talent, Nelson plays harp, guitar and piano
and sings equally well. My favorites include the forceful harp attack
of "In Walks G," where Nelsen shows off his considerable harp chops, and the
Chicago guitar style redefined on "Too Bad," where he's simply a guitar monster.
When the band gets acoustic on "I'm Here to Stay," they transport me right down
to Mississippi with some of the most evocative country blues I've heard this
year. Check Nelsen out online at www.nelsenadelard.com. Better yet, catch him
live in California!
