MINISTRY
Early Trax (Ryko)
Reviewed by John Sekerka
Remember when little Alan Jourgenson was making twelve inch techno dance vinyl records geared to compete with Madonna on the disco floors? It's true, and before you start making bets to the contrary give this a listen cuz the proof is in the poppy grooves, peppy vocals, blippy synth blaps and tepid scratching. "Every Day is Halloween" is not only a very timely tune (you goblins you) but the cleverly sequenced remix (next in line) shows the evolution of Ministry into the demonic state of chaotic affairs we now know and dutifully follow all zombie like. That's the menu here: original tune, the nasty remix, original tune, nasty remix, and on. The songs keep getting harder, and the mixes more outlandish. You can almost see the horns growing out of Al's cowboy hat. For those who were too busy completing their Madonna twelve inch collection and missed it the first time around.
