Let's shorten the opening paragraph. Cosmik Debris is run by and staffed by a lot of people who are either card carrying democrats or are at least self-professed liberals. A decade ago, when the first issues of Cosmik hit the Net, it was much more politically oriented than it is today. Something has changed, and we feel you should be made aware of it. Although the music/entertainment content will still be here (and we wouldn't have it any other way), there will once again be real political content in Cosmik.
Stuff happens, right? In this case, it was November 2nd that happened. November 2nd made us realize that even though most of us spent the last year and change volunteering time for various causes aimed at getting George W. Bush and the Neocons out of power, we forgot that we had Cosmik Debris right here, ready and waiting for articles, interviews, dissemination of information, links to petition drives and all kinds of things that would not have changed the election results. No, not by ourselves. We only reach so many people, but we had and again have the opportunity to be part of a larger effort to keep people informed and involved, and we're not going to drop the ball this time. According to all available evidence, at least 54 million people are pissed off, and many are looking for a way to help prepare for 2006's midterm elections. There are thousands of bloggers, magazines, organizations and volunteers out there looking to help keep them in the game, and we're in for the long haul.
If you're still in the anger stage and don't know what your next step is, staying informed is the way to start. We're going to be one little part of the effort to help in that regard, beginning this month with Erick Mertz's profile of the man George W. Bush has lined up to replace Attorney General John Ashcroft, Alberto Gonzales. The Right portrays him as a moderate, but don't you believe it. Mr. Mertz's article is a must read for anyone for whom Alberto Gonzales is just a name. As Mr. Bush hands power to people we don't elect and can't veto, we intend to let you know who those people are.
So watch the table of contents from here on, because there will always be something in Cosmik for those of you who want to keep an eye on what's happening in politics. In case you haven't noticed, even some of the most liberal news sources clammed up like a mob witness in an unguarded hotel room the minute they declared Bush the winner. Well, we never had access to the White House in the first place, so they can't keep us in line by threatening to take it away. Again, the entertainment content won't suffer a bit, so if you're not a political person, or if the election just finished you off and you can't take another drop, there'll always be enough to keep you busy for days at cosmik.com. Thanks for reading.
