BUCKETHEAD
Monsters And Robots (Cyberoctave / Virgin)
Reviewed by John Sekerka
The mystery man of John Zorn's avant circle of musical butchers, Buckethead
steps up front with his flying V for a heavy dose of electrified finger
picking. Hiding behind a Michael Myers mask, and under a fried chicken
bucket, this ax enigma rocks hard in that ever so popular Nine Inch Nails
hammer attack, augmenting his heavy industrial chops with some ultra nimble
fret work. Les Claypool is along for much of this ride, giving it (as any
project he appears on) that distinct Primus crunch. Not a bad thing,
especially since the last couple of Primus projects have wallowed
directionless. Buckethead's aim is clear and true: to blast out sonic
trickery for the rabid slasher audience at a feverish pace. It is cause for
head-spinning, of the most excellent variety.
