DEATH IN VEGAS
The Contino Sessions (Time Bomb)
Reviewed by John Sekerka
Now here's a play at the big time. After a brilliant, and frankly overlooked
last record, Death In Vegas comes out swinging for a chance at the
championship belt for the millennium. The super sexy synth sound of "Dead
Elvis" are replaced by an influx of crunchy guitars, though the trademark
catchy beats still persist. Enlisting Jim Reid (Jesus & Mary Chain), Bobby
Gillespie (Primal Scream) and gulp, Iggy Pop, as guest vocalists is sure to
peak the interest meter. Pop's spot ("Aisha") is a chilling bit of ominous
narration, and a nice introduction to the eclectic disc. Perhaps the masses
will take note this time around, soak up this platter and scoop up "Dead
Elvis" while they're at it.
