PRINCE MALACHI
Love Jah (VP Records)
Reviewed by Eric Steiner
VP Records is celebrating its 20th anniversary and is releasing
unprecedented
numbers of high quality reggae albums. Prince Malachi's Love Jah is worth finding
for a new voice among inspirational reggae artists. My favorites include
the
inspirational "Mamma Don't Fret" and the loose rock-steady of "Jah is Our
Guide." Fans of traditional reggae will enjoy how "Ready Fi Dem," which
builds around a bouncy horn and rhythm section. The disc's closer, "My
Love," is a great love song, but "Prophet, Priest and King" is one of the
more popular cuts that has landed Prince Malachi in the top 15 of the
Blackworld Reggae Roots Charts. With company like Anthony B, Burning Spear,
Ras Shiloh, Aswad, and many other stars on that list, that's not too bad.
He
may have taken his name from the last Hebrew prophet in the Old Testament,
but Prince Malachi is something new and well worth catching.
Track List:
Healing on the Streets * Love Jah * Keep the Faith * Fire is Blazing * Mamma
Don't Fret * Jah is Our Guide * Ready Fi Dem * Leaders of the Future *
