THE STRAY CATS
Live Struttin' (Big Ear Music)

Reviewed by Shaun Dale

As a reviewer, there's a lot I'd like to know about this live set from the Stray Cats. Like when it was recorded, for instance, and where. The only clue offered is the set list, which indicates that this is a product of one of the band's early 90's reunion journeys. Another hint is the absence of bassist Lee Rocker, who's replaced by noted Welsch rockabilly Dave Edmunds on the album.

Dave Edmunds, of course, is a perfectly acceptable replacement for a whole bunch of people, and Brian Setzer and Slim Jim Phantom are on hand and in fine form for a set of Stray Cats hits, obscurities and covers. If you're a fan of the group's rockabilly revival sound, you won't be disappointed by the selections or the performances. If you're a hard core audiophile, you might be put off by some of the sonic glitches scattered around the disc, but with DCC's Steve Hoffman at the studio switches you can be sure this is as good as the source material allows.
