CARRIE AKRE
Home (Good Ink)

You may have never heard of the Seattle band,
Hammerbox, but Carrie Akre led them and another
called Goodness for years. Now she emerges on her
own with the debut Home.
Good Ink is Akre's own imprint, and they have
also issued Blue Spark, Sweet Water, and
others. Akre seems quite keen to make the
independent scene in Seattle more fertile than it
already has proven to be in the past.
A graceful, sensual vocal approach would be an
understatement, as some of her songs gave me the
chills. You can imagine that
she's over in the corner singing them to you
while you lie back and close your eyes. The
backing is generally languid, and has an airy
ambience to it. Akre has just announced plans for
a project with Pat DiNizio of The Smithereens
called The V.I.P.s. I'm looking forward to it. If
you're ready to wrap yourself up in a thick
blanket and have some music add counterpoints to
the rain on your rooftop, come
Home.
