What can I tell you that the title doesn't say. Herein you'll find every Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell duet ever released. What, you're still there? You haven't clicked the buy button and gone away yet? Well then, let me tell you just a bit more.
This is also at least some of the Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell you've never heard before, with three unreleased duets on Disc One. It's also a bunch of Tammi Terrell you've never heard before, with nine unreleased solo tracks, in addition to four that were the singles from her only solo album, 1969's Irresistible. Of course, you'll have heard some of the performances in another form, since these were the cuts that allowed Marvin and Tammy to continue to release records after a brain tumor and the resulting surgeries and treatments rendered her unable to perform. With the help of some production wizardry from Nick Ashford and Valerie Simpson (who were also the composers of most of the best known Marvin & Tammi Material), Gaye overlaid vocal parts on tracks that had originally been recorded as Tammi Terrell singles. When those ran out, Simpson took the Tammi role for part of the third album, 1969's Easy, but without new material from Tammi herself, the magic was gone. (Valerie might have taken a tip from the title of one of her best songs - There ain't, in fact, nothing like the real thing.) Singles from Easy had some modest success, but the album didn't dent the R&B charts and topped out at #184 on the pop side.
It was amazing while it lasted, though, and the chance to own every single Marvin and Tammi duet in a single package is, well, it's about all I need to get by.
